Reliquum
This work explores the past and present with nature as our constant guide. Earth will outlast all tyrants, queens, and presidents even with the stress we place on it through man-made climate change. Using nature as the main stage, the historical narrative in my pieces are told with modern contexts. Specifically, I’m drawn towards parallels between the United States and the Roman Empire. I explore these relationships by creating little vestiges of human-life in dramatic landscapes. Instead of a horse drawn caravan, you’ll find a semi-truck. In place of a watchtower, an old shed. I encourage the viewer to consider the similar Empirical qualities between Rome and the U.S. Rome was a republic before it was an Empire. Is the U.S. following the same path?
